The Author

My name is Keir Whitaker and I currently work at Carsonified, a privately held company based in Bath UK which specialises in building web apps and hosting events and workshops for the web industry. You may know our work from such events as Future of Web Apps and Future of Web Design.

I have recently relocated to Bath after almost 13 years living in London. It’s certainly different but in a good way and a nice place to raise children. Talking of which I am a ridiculously proud father of a baby girl born in August 2007.

Before joining Carsonified I worked as a freelance web developer/designer for three years using PHP, CSS and ASP.Net. Prior to that I spent my days coding old skool ASP web sites for the NHS in the London borough of Tower Hamlets.

When not working or changing nappies I can usually be found reading, being told to put the laptop away or trying to learn some new code (currently Django). There’s just never enough time!

Please excuse the self portrait picture. It’s not me trying to look cool but the most recent one where I don’t look like a complete zombie. It was taken in Miami at the beautiful Nikki Beach.

The Site

The site is held together by the almost latest version of WordPress, a PHP based open source publishing system. There’s a bunch of scripts that pull in things like my Twitter feed, ma.gnolia links and Flickr in a very non standards way. That is if you don’t have JavaScript enabled you really don’t see anything. I know it’s bad but I will get round to sorting it out. I like to call this approach “Intrusive JavaScript”. I can only thank myself for the theme. I have always loved green and black so thought I would give it a spin. I am still not entirely sure it works but until time permits it will remain.
